Farmers’ Market last week brought in only a few dollars as we were rained out.
- Bring small paper bags if you have them for when we sell one or two muffins.
- We regularly need volunteers to be at the booth talking about Rotary and selling baked goods.
- It would be helpful if members can help buy food mixes, cash, banners, or whatever is needed to help support our efforts at the Lansing Farmers’ Market.
Student From France – Janet Steiner asked that anyone interested in hosting a Rotary-sponsored student from France contact her at steinerjanet. She just needs a place to stay for one semester as she learns at Cornell. Start date is August 13.
HAPPY – SAD $$$: Dan challenged members to wear Rotary pins, donating $1 per pin per person up to 5 pins. Boy, was he surprised! We ended up with about $20 in pin dollars alone. Dan created a new category he dubbed “stupid dollars” for forgetting his own pins. Many folks were happy in general or were sad to have missed some meetings. After the meeting, Ev contributed for his recent 95th birthday!
PROGRAM:
We were honored to have Pam Hamel and Roger VandePoel from Tetra Tech talk to us about the company. Pam is an architect, director, and senior project manager. Roger is a senior architectural designer.
The Ithaca office started out as Fred K. Thomas’ architectural firm. Later, it became The Thomas Group. In 2002, it was bought by Tetra Tech, an international firm of related building services, which held off on renaming the company until 2010. With over 100 employees at the 48-year old firm, they are now part of a 330-office, 13,000+ people mission.
Specializing in government buildings, the company collectively does everything from architecture, interior design, and engineering to specialty services such as security and technology. Their local work includes the master plan for Tompkins Cortland Community College and Ithaca College, the Tompkins County Human Services building, and the Cass Park ice rink.
Building structures vary from schools to airport hangers to bus garages. Their expertise has been used for as unexpected circumstances as retrieving an enormous road clearing machine used on the ice roads featured on Ice Road Truckers to working with a university in Qatar to build a series of structures modeled after a training facility in NY to train fire fighters and other first responders.
Yes, we do a recap here, but if you’d been at the meeting, you also would have gotten a complimentary sub-compact fluorescent bulb to take home with you, thanks to Pam and Roger. It even has cool packaging with informative tips about energy efficiency.

The Rotary Four Way Test of all the things we think, say, or do
Is it the truth?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
